My friend and I visited when I dropped off the photos; we had fun peering at the wonderful paintings, and getting to know Meagan, who not only works there but has some of her art on display.

Paper Connection International, who supplied the Japanese paper, or washi, for my show, also has some other decorative sheets of handmade paper for sale. These hail from Japan, and include hand painted kozo, as well as katazome, or resist dyed sheets. Cute stationery from Japan is available too.

Tamar, the owner of Gallery Sitka, works very hard supporting the arts in the area. She’s in a great location, right near the Fitchburg Art Museum. She also runs a studio in Shirley, MA, where she guides clients with web design, social media, and other digital marketing.

Visit Gallery Sitka for some refreshing and inspiring experiences, meet some nice people, and support the arts in central MA.

And thanks, Tamar!

A Little Haiku Camera in Acton

I’m happy to announce my photographs are on display at the Wellness at Villageworks in West Acton, MA. There is something different about these photos; they are printed on Japanese paper, or washi. I used coated bamboo paper, suggested by Lauren Pearlman, from Paper Connection International, which ran through an Epson quite smoothly. Many thanks to Zen Saito, who helped print these photos. Of course I am always indebted to my incredible husband, who is always so unbelievably supportive.

ALL in Lowell

Recently I visited Van Gogh’s Gear in Lowell to purchase some art supplies for an upcoming show, (more on that later). Laura, who works there, was great in helping with practical tips for framing and displaying works on paper. Laura mainly works with oils, but has started to get back into printmaking. She encouraged us to visit the exhibit in the room adjoining the shop, The Fabrication of Imagination, by Arts League of Lowell – ALL, sponsored by Artscope Magazine.  The show just ended, but thought I would share some of the works by members of ALL. These photos are also posted on Paper Connection International’s Facebook, where I freelance. Paper Connection is a great resource for handmade paper for all sorts of art applications.

A couple of years ago one of the lovely paperwomen I work with handcrafted this beautiful box for my wedding. Made with handmade vintage yuzen, or chiyogami paper, as well as lokta, and lots of love, this was a perfect box for all the letters, cards, and well wishes we received. Thanks so much Deb, and all the paperwomen. We still treasure it.

Making Up For Lost Time…With Book Arts

It’s been a busy fall, and I am making up for lost time, sharing some wonderful pieces by book artists I met at the recent Guild of Book Workers conference in Boston, yes, way back in October!

windyweatherbindery

Wendy of Windy Weather Bindery is responsible for the jewelry/gift box above, and loves doing custom work, including portfolios. Local artists who need sophisticated presentation for their work-check her out!

Monica of Boom Box Bindery made these adorable book earrings:

Both are graduates of the North Bennett Street School in Boston, and both were totally sweet and a pleasure to meet. I wish them the best in their future endeavors and know they will be successful!

Craving Katazome?

Tired of a white out winter? If you are craving happy colors, check out these handmade cards from Yamada Shokai, Japan collected by Lauren at Paper Connection International.  Katazome is an amazing Japanese craft of resist dyeing on paper or fabric. It’s one of my favorite printmaking techniques.
