An Ordinary Day in Medford in May

While checking out the herring run, (you can read more about the details here), we saw these beautiful birds and other creatures. It’s amazing how you can catch quiet moments and simple, inspiring moments in nature, with these birds, fish, and reptiles carrying on their migrations, feedings, and natural life cycles, not too far from a bustling city like Boston. I’m new to capturing flying and swimming friends. It’s quite challenging. I took a few liberties with some blurred moments, trying to create an abstract feel. Maybe I’m not up for the wildlife challenge-yet! I will be posting some more soon on my revamped Instagram, @loweaperture. More news about that soon.

Medford Herring and Bird

Have you ever been to the Mystic River Watershed?

We visited the herring run there earlier this month. While observing the comorants feeding and sea gulls circling overhead, we were hoping the herring could make it safely to the other side, continuing on their spring journey.

Watching these diving birds, however, was impressive. It’s amazing how voracious their appetites are. The area is pleasant to visit, and you learn that an important wildlife migration takes place right here in Massachusetts.

In the meantime, enjoy the cormorants and sea gulls.

A Little Haiku Camera in Acton

I’m happy to announce my photographs are on display at the Wellness at Villageworks in West Acton, MA. There is something different about these photos; they are printed on Japanese paper, or washi. I used coated bamboo paper, suggested by Lauren Pearlman, from Paper Connection International, which ran through an Epson quite smoothly. Many thanks to Zen Saito, who helped print these photos. Of course I am always indebted to my incredible husband, who is always so unbelievably supportive.

ALL in Lowell

Recently I visited Van Gogh’s Gear in Lowell to purchase some art supplies for an upcoming show, (more on that later). Laura, who works there, was great in helping with practical tips for framing and displaying works on paper. Laura mainly works with oils, but has started to get back into printmaking. She encouraged us to visit the exhibit in the room adjoining the shop, The Fabrication of Imagination, by Arts League of Lowell – ALL, sponsored by A rtscope Magazine. The show just ended, but thought I would share some of the works by members of ALL. These photos are also posted on Paper Connection International’s Facebook, where I freelance. Paper Connection is a great resource for handmade paper for all sorts of art applications.
